Battery Fire Protection Solution for the World’s Largest Source-Grid-Load-Storage Demonstration Project

With the acceleration of the construction of a new type of power system, renewable energy like solar power and wind power assumes a growing proportion in power mix, but its characteristics of volatility, intermittency and randomness also bring challenges to the stable operation of the power grid. Source-Grid-Load- Storage integrated solution can promote exact match between supply and demand, effectively solves the problems of clean energy consumption and grid volatility, improves the comprehensive efficiency of the power system.
The Ulanqab's new generation grid-friendly green power station demonstration project is the first batch of "source-network-load-storage" integrated demonstration projects in China, with 3,100,000 kilowatts of total installed capacity, including 2,800,000 million kilowatts of wind power, 300,000 kilowatts of photovoltaic power, and 880,000 kilowatts of supporting energy storage facilities * 2 hours. It is also the largest wind-solar-storage hybrid project in China and also the first renewable energy power plant in China combined with a GWh-scale energy storage system.
Energy storage is a vital part of this project and has strict requirements for the security of system. 3onedata provides fire prevention solution for the entire energy storage plant to monitor the conditions inside the battery compartments in real time and prevent fires.
An ICP222-2F-2CI CAN bus server is deployed in each storage battery compartment to connect the monitoring modules of each battery cluster via CAN bus. In addition, all CAN servers adopt 3onedata's patented ringing technology SW-Ring which provide a fast recovery time of less than 50ms when network is disconnected, and form a 100M Ethernet fiber optic ring network with an industrial L2 switch IES618-4F, and finally interface with the primary CAN master control and monitoring center. Warning signal will be transmitted through CAN bus to the ICP222-2F-2CI, CAN master and monitoring center immediately once a heating effect occurs in the energy storage bin, and it will send alarms to help the O&M staff quickly locate the fault location.
Both the ICP222-2F-2CI and IES618-4F feature high electromagnetic compatibility and IP40 rated aluminum enclosures to withstand harsh environments and extreme operating temperatures from -40°C to 75°C. They can adapt to the harsh environment in energy storage plants and maintain stable operation, ensuring high reliability and stability of the transmission network and helping operator save unnecessary operation and maintenance costs.
